Social4Good Supports NVFS Youth at Risk

November Project Sponsors Warmth & Comfort Bags for NVFS Teens and Their Families

Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS) mission is to empower individuals and families to improve their quality of life, and to promote community cooperation and support in responding to family needs. NVFS Youth at Risk programs targeted at reducing youth violence and gang membership in youth ages 10 to 21; for youth who have experienced separation and reunification based on immigration; and reduce family and community violence in specific high-need neighborhoods (Culmore, Annandale, and Herndon).

COVID has been particularly hard on families and teens at risk who are now attending school virtually from where they live. Working with NVFS, S4G identified how best to reach clients with items to help strengthen teens and their families.

51 Social4Good' members:
  • Sponsored 50 warmth bags with pro-social and fun items to brighten a teen's day and engage with their families.
  • Created 20 Thanksgiving bags and donated 30-$25 grocery gift cards to address food insecurity for teens' families. NVFS case managers will deliver the bags to the neediest families.  Each bag contains rice; two types of dried beans; corn tortillas; Maseca; cereal; stuffing; mashed potatoes; bag of onions and potatoes; and cake mix and frosting.
Special thanks
  • Social4Good's Team November: Faith Boettger, Krista Chichester, Elizabeth Gay and Adriana Hall.
  • Cycle Chi and East Meets West Yoga for donating items for the teen bags.
  • Gina for donating creative art kits.
